Ochota lies just west and southwest of central Warsaw, between the city centre and the airport. From above it is defined by strong lines: Aleje Jerozolimskie running west, the broad rail corridor around Warszawa Zachodnia station, and Grójecka Street heading southwest through the heart of the district to Plac Narutowicza, a circular square that anchors the street plan.
The district mixes prewar tenement blocks, interwar villa quarters and postwar housing estates, which gives the map a varied texture. Ochota is also home to the Filtry, the historic water filtration works designed by William Lindley in the late nineteenth century, a large walled site with a regular layout that still supplies Warsaw with water.
