Ouled Mimoun lies in Tlemcen province, in northwestern Algeria, on agricultural plains east of the city of Tlemcen. During the colonial period the town was known as Lamoricière. It was laid out on a regular plan, and that plan still shows clearly from above: straight streets meet at right angles to form even rectangular blocks.
Around the town, the land is used for farming. Fields and orchards spread outward in geometric plots, and roads connect the town to Tlemcen and the wider region. Hills rise in the distance, but the town itself sits on fairly level ground.
