Pinole is a city in western Contra Costa County, California, on the shore of San Pablo Bay. Its map is shaped by the bay to the north, the rolling hills to the south and Pinole Creek, which runs through the town to the water. Interstate 80 crosses the city from east to west, dividing the older waterfront area from the hillside neighbourhoods.
Old Town Pinole sits near the creek along San Pablo Avenue, with a small, irregular grid of streets that predates the freeway. Further inland, newer neighbourhoods follow the terrain in curving streets, and Pinole Valley extends southward as a long, narrow corridor between the hills.
