Puchheim lies just west of Munich, in the district of Fürstenfeldbruck in Bavaria. From above, it shows an unusual two-part structure: Puchheim-Bahnhof, which grew around the railway station, and Puchheim-Ort, the older village to the south, with open land and roads between them.
The railway line, now served by the Munich S-Bahn, crosses the northern part of town and has shaped its growth since the late nineteenth century. Around the station, streets form a denser grid with apartment blocks and houses, while the older village keeps a looser, more rural pattern.
