Puerto Wilches is a river town in Santander, Colombia, on the east bank of the Magdalena River in the country's middle Magdalena region. The river dominates any map of the place: a wide, braided channel with sandbanks and side arms, next to which the town's streets look small and tightly organised. The urban area is a fairly regular grid that begins at the riverfront and extends inland.
