Rāmhormoz lies in eastern Khuzestan in southwest Iran, where the flat lowlands begin to rise toward the Zagros Mountains. The town has a long past: settlement in the area goes back to antiquity, and its name is linked to the Sasanian era. From above, the modern town is a compact network of streets surrounded by farmland, with the foothills appearing as rising ground to the northeast.
The street plan combines broad avenues that cross the town with smaller residential blocks between them, and main roads leave toward Ahvaz and other towns of the province. Field boundaries give the surrounding land a fine, linear pattern, and the contrast between the tight urban centre and the open plain is what gives the map its character.
