Seri Kembangan lies in Selangor, south of Kuala Lumpur, in the rapidly developed corridor between the capital and Putrajaya. From above, the town is a patchwork of housing estates, commercial strips and industrial areas, divided by expressways that cut through in long curves. To the south, the large campus of Universiti Putra Malaysia forms a broad green area with its own internal roads.
Much of the land around Seri Kembangan was once used for tin mining, and several of the old mining pools remain as lakes, some now surrounded by resorts, offices and parkland. The town has grown steadily as part of the Klang Valley conurbation, and its markets and food streets draw visitors from nearby districts.
