Serpentine hill lanes
Roads climbing from the old centre toward the palaces curve in tight bends, drawing loose loops across the map that show the steepness of the ground.

Sintra Map Poster & Print
Sintra lies northwest of Lisbon, on the flanks of the Serra de Sintra, a granite range that rises abruptly from the coastal plain. On a map its historic centre is anything but a grid: lanes loop, double back and climb, following the slope rather than any plan, while larger estates and parkland occupy the higher ground above the town.
That tension between tight, winding streets and broad wooded estates gives the print its character. Roads fan out toward the Atlantic side of the hills and down toward the suburbs of the Lisbon region. A Sintra map poster captures the way the town seems poured onto the mountainside, its lines thinning as the terrain steepens.
Sintra's cultural landscape was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1995. It is known for the Pena Palace, the older Moorish Castle along the ridge and romantic nineteenth-century gardens, which made the town a retreat for Portuguese royalty and later for writers and travellers.

The Serra's green mass
Much of the upper map is parkland and forest with few streets, so the historic centre reads as a small, intricate cluster at the edge of a wide open space.
Toward the Atlantic
Roads spread west from the hills toward the coast, giving the composition a sense of direction from the dense town out to the open ocean edge of Europe.

Sintra is often the most remembered day of a Lisbon trip, and for many it is also where they married, stayed or grew up. A map of its winding lanes is a subtle reminder of misty hills and palace towers.
Personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates line with a name or date, then choose Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Paper and Sand suit the town's old estates particularly well.
