Śródmieście Map Poster & Print
Śródmieście is Warsaw's central district, and its map is one of the most layered in Europe. The Vistula runs along its eastern edge beneath a long escarpment, and the Royal Route traces a line south from the Old Town through Krakowskie Przedmieście and Nowy Świat. West of it, wide post-war avenues such as Marszałkowska and Aleje Jerozolimskie form a broader, more monumental grid.
Most of the district was destroyed in 1944, and the Old Town that stands today is a careful post-war reconstruction, recognised by UNESCO. The Palace of Culture and Science rises from a vast square near the central station, a Soviet-era gift that still dominates the skyline. To the south, Łazienki park and palace add large green spaces to the plan.
A Śródmieście map poster brings together the curved medieval lanes of the Old Town, the long straight axis of the Royal Route and the wide squares of the twentieth century. Few city centres show their history this clearly in plan form, and in black and white the contrasts become the whole composition.
