Szczepin is a district of Wrocław lying directly west of the historic centre. On a map it fills the land between the old town and the western neighbourhoods, with the Oder and its branches close by to the north. Unlike the medieval core next door, much of Szczepin is made up of large postwar housing blocks set in open green courtyards.
The area was heavily damaged in 1945 during the siege of Festung Breslau, and most of it was rebuilt in the following decades. That history is visible from above: wide streets, generous spacing between buildings and long rectangular blocks, with only a few older street lines surviving from before the war.
