Troisdorf lies in the Rhein-Sieg district, just northeast of Bonn and southeast of Cologne. Its map is framed by water and open land: the Sieg runs along the south, the Agger joins it from the east, and to the north the Wahner Heide, a large heath and forest area, leaves a wide empty space. The town fills the ground between them.
The street pattern is a mix of older village cores that grew together and postwar residential areas, with railway lines cutting through on the way between Cologne and the Sieg valley.
