West Jordan lies in the Salt Lake Valley, southwest of Salt Lake City. Its eastern boundary follows the Jordan River, and from there the land rises gradually west toward the Oquirrh Mountains. On a map, the city follows the valley's grid of major roads spaced roughly a mile apart, a system shared across much of the Salt Lake area.
Within each large square of the grid, neighbourhoods are laid out in curving streets and cul-de-sacs, creating a distinctive pattern: straight arterial lines framing softer loops. The river corridor on the east side adds a winding green line, with parks and trails along its banks.
