Kafrul is a thana in north-central Dhaka, and on a map it sits along one of the city's most striking boundaries. To one side lies the Dhaka Cantonment, with its wide roads, open fields and sparse buildings; to the other, some of the densest residential neighbourhoods in the capital, with narrow lanes branching in every direction.
The contrast is what defines the district from above. Blocks in Kafrul are small and tightly packed, streets bend and fork, and a few main roads carry heavy traffic between Mirpur and other parts of the city.
