Holland River valley
The East Holland River cuts a meandering green strip through town, with Fairy Lake along its course near the historic centre. It is the only curving line among the straight arterials.

Newmarket Map Poster & Print
Newmarket lies north of Toronto in York Region, and from above it shows the pattern common to southern Ontario. Long concession roads cross at right angles and divide the land into big rectangles. Inside them, suburban streets loop and curve in crescents and cul-de-sacs, a softer texture set within the rigid survey lines.
The East Holland River runs through the middle of town in a green corridor. Fairy Lake, a small pond on the river, sits near the old centre. Historic Main Street runs close to the valley, lined with nineteenth-century buildings, and Yonge Street, one of the province's oldest roads, passes along the town's western side.
A Newmarket map poster shows how a small nineteenth-century market town was absorbed into a larger suburban grid. The narrow blocks near Main Street, the river's winding green band and the broad arterials such as Davis Drive and Mulock Drive each add a different line weight to the composition.

Historic Main Street
The old commercial street runs near the river. Its smaller, tighter blocks stand apart from the looping subdivisions that grew up around it later.
Concession grid
Survey roads such as Davis Drive and Mulock Drive split the town into large rectangles, the underlying frame of the whole map.
