Section-line grid
Major roads follow the square-mile survey lines, giving the map a regular frame. The residential developments fill in the spaces between them.

San Tan Valley Map Poster & Print
San Tan Valley lies south-east of the Phoenix metropolitan area in Pinal County, Arizona. From above, it is a pattern of master-planned subdivisions, each with its own curving streets, loops and small parks. These sit within a grid of arterial roads that follow the old section lines across the desert. The San Tan Mountains rise to the west as a rough, empty patch on the map.
Much of the community was built in the early twenty-first century on land that had been desert and farmland, and it grew rapidly as families moved out from the Phoenix area. The regional park in the San Tan Mountains offers trails through Sonoran Desert terrain close to the new neighbourhoods.
A San Tan Valley map poster shows a very recent kind of place. Tightly designed residential patterns are laid out within a wide square grid, and the rugged mountain terrain beyond sets a natural limit. On paper, the neighbourhoods look almost like decorative motifs set against the open desert.

Subdivision patterns
Each development has its own loops, cul-de-sacs and small parks. On a black and white print they read as intricate, repeating shapes.
San Tan Mountains
The rocky range to the west has almost no streets. It forms a large blank area that contrasts sharply with the dense neighbourhoods.
