Hillside streets
Roads curve and climb along the contours of the slope. Reduced to fine lines, the street pattern looks almost hand-drawn.

Shaqlāwah Map Poster & Print
Shaqlāwah lies in the Erbil governorate of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, northeast of Erbil, on the slopes below the Safeen mountain range. It has long been a summer retreat for people escaping the heat of the plains. Its springs, orchards and cooler air are what give the town its character.
The terrain shapes the map. Streets follow the contours of the hillside, bending and switching back rather than meeting in a grid, and the main road runs through the town along lower ground. Orchards and gardens of fruit trees and vines fill the slopes around the built-up area, giving way higher up to open mountain ground.
Shaqlāwah is especially known for its fruit, sold at roadside stalls and markets through summer and autumn. A Shaqlāwah map poster shows the town in its mountain setting: winding lines, dense small blocks and green slopes, reduced to precise black and white and still clearly a place in the hills.

Orchard slopes
Fruit orchards and gardens spread across the terraces around the town. They form soft, irregular patches between the streets and the higher mountain ground.
Safeen backdrop
The Safeen range rises above Shaqlāwah, and the town's position at its foot gives the map a clear sense of mountain and valley.
