Simele Map Poster & Print
Simele, also written Sumayl, stands on low, open ground in Duhok Governorate in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. From above, the town is compact. Its blocks are arranged along a few principal streets and thin out quickly into cultivated fields. Hills and mountain ridges rise at a distance, so the town itself reads as a tidy cluster on an otherwise open plain.
The name carries weight in modern history. In August 1933, Simele and the surrounding villages were the site of a massacre of Assyrian civilians by Iraqi forces. The event is remembered by Assyrian communities around the world every 7 August, now observed as Assyrian Martyrs Day. Today the town serves as a district centre for the farmland around it.
For that reason, a Simele map poster is often more than decoration. It can be a way to hold on to a place tied to family memory, drawn with restraint: street lines, field edges and roads leading out into the countryside. The simple black-and-white treatment suits a subject that asks for care rather than ornament.

Surrounding villages
Smaller settlements dot the plain around the town, linked by country roads. A wider framing shows them as scattered clusters in the open landscape.
Toward the mountains
To the north the land begins to climb toward the mountains of the Kurdistan Region. On the map the roads start to curve there and follow the valleys.

Zakaj Simele
Zemljevid, ki nekaj pomeni
Many who choose a map of Simele have family roots in the town or its villages and now live far away. A clean black-and-white map can hang as a quiet act of remembrance, or simply as a picture of the place where parents and grandparents lived.
Write your own title and subtitle, such as a family name, a village or a significant date, and adjust the coordinates line. Choose from five styles and look at a free watermarked preview first. Then download the HD files for $9 or order a matte print.
