Springfield sits in Delaware County, a short distance west of Philadelphia, and from above it reads as a classic postwar suburb. There is no single grid here. Instead, short blocks of houses bend around each other in loops and cul-de-sacs, and the lines get denser wherever older neighbourhoods meet the main roads. The effect on paper is a fine, even texture broken up by a few long, confident arteries.
The township's edges are drawn by water and woodland. Crum Creek runs along the west side in a green, winding corridor, and the Blue Route, Interstate 476, follows part of that valley before heading north.
