The eastern road
The main road runs through the town and sets its orientation. Most other streets meet it at an angle, so the whole plan reads as a single spine with branches.

Zemljevid
Welench’ītī Map Poster & Print
Welench’ītī lies in the Oromiya region of Ethiopia, on the open floor of the Great Rift Valley east of Adama. From above, the town follows the main road that carries traffic toward the eastern lowlands, so the streets form one long spine. Shorter lanes branch off it on both sides, and past them the farmland starts almost immediately.
The pattern is easy to follow. Denser blocks sit closest to the road, where the market and most of the town's activity are. Moving outward, the blocks loosen into compounds and footpaths, then open ground. The town has grown mainly along its length rather than in rings, and in black and white that stretched shape is clear enough to hold the whole composition.
A Welench’ītī map poster keeps things simple: one strong line, a scatter of side streets, and the wide spaces of the valley around them. There are no dramatic coastlines or dense old quarters here. What you get is the plain geometry of a Rift Valley road town, which is worth looking at closely for that reason.

Rift Valley floor
The town sits on the broad, fairly level floor of the Great Rift Valley. That is why the street pattern spreads out freely and never has to bend around steep ground.
Open edges
Beyond the last lanes, the map thins into tracks and fields. The contrast between the dense centre and its sparse surroundings gives the poster generous white space.
