Airport runway
The runway runs parallel to the southern shore and cuts a bold, straight line across the district, the most dominant single shape anywhere on the island's map.

Yaren Map Poster & Print
Nauru has no official capital, but Yaren District, on the island's southern coast, is where the parliament and main government offices stand, and it serves as the capital in practice. Nauru is one of the smallest countries in the world, a single raised coral island in the central Pacific, and Yaren is one of its fourteen administrative districts.
From above, the defining feature is the runway of Nauru International Airport, a long straight strip laid along the coast that takes up a large share of the district's land. The island's ring road skirts it, and houses and public buildings sit in the narrow band between the runway, the road and the reef-fringed shore.
Inland the ground rises to Topside, the central plateau left rugged by decades of phosphate mining. Yaren also contains Moqua Well, an underground freshwater lake and one of the island's few natural sources of fresh water. A Yaren map poster shows how much of daily life is compressed into a thin coastal ring, with the island's broad interior beyond it.

Ring road
A single road circles the whole of Nauru close to the coast, and in Yaren it skirts the runway, tying the district to its neighbours on either side.
Coastal band
Homes, government buildings and the parliament occupy the thin strip between the road and the reef flat, a narrow ribbon of settlement against open ocean.

Zakaj Yaren
Zemljevid, ki nekaj pomeni
A map of Yaren suits anyone connected to Nauru through family, work or a Pacific posting, and anyone fascinated by the smallest nations on earth. Its composition is striking in its economy: a runway, a road, a coastline and the sea. It works well framed large on a plain wall.
Personalise the title and subtitle, perhaps adding a year or your own coordinates line, and select from five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Buy the HD files for $9 and print at home or locally, or order a matte print shipped from a nearby partner.
