Planned grid
Straight streets and near-square blocks give the town a rational, regular structure that reflects its origins as a planned farming settlement.

Zernograd Map Poster & Print
Zernograd lies in the open steppe of Rostov Oblast in southern Russia. From above it is unusually orderly for a small town: straight streets meet at right angles, the blocks are close to square, and the edge between town and farmland is sharply drawn. Shelter belts of trees divide the fields beyond into long rectangles.
The name means grain city. The settlement grew from Gigant, a huge state grain farm founded at the end of the 1920s, and became a town in 1960. It is also home to an agricultural engineering academy, and farming has shaped its identity from the start.
A Zernograd map poster shows the logic of a planned agricultural town. The regular grid of the centre sits inside a much larger geometry of fields and windbreaks. In monochrome both patterns show up crisply, with a railway line crossing the flat land at a steady angle.

Field and windbreak lines
Around the town, long tree belts divide the steppe into large rectangular fields, a second grid at a much larger scale.
Open steppe setting
The land is flat and wide in every direction, so roads and the railway run long and straight toward neighbouring settlements.

Zakaj Zernograd
Zemljevid, ki nekaj pomeni
Zernograd's straight streets and fields hold a very particular sense of home for those who grew up there. As a print, the map is graphic and orderly, and it suits a calm, modern interior.
Personalise the title and subtitle, perhaps with a family name or a graduation year, and keep the coordinates line. Sand suits the grain fields, and Classic black & white suits the grid.
