Lake Ziway shoreline
The western shore is soft and uneven, with reed beds and inlets. Against the solid tone of the lake, that line becomes the strongest edge on the whole poster.

Ziway Map Poster & Print
Ziway, also known as Batu, lies on the western edge of Lake Ziway, the northernmost of the lakes in Ethiopia's central Rift Valley. From above, the town reads as a loose grid on one side and a wide, pale sheet of water on the other. The shoreline is irregular and marshy in places, and small islands sit out in the lake, so the water never looks like an empty block.
The main road between Addis Ababa and the southern highlands runs through the town, and most of the street pattern grows out from that line. Side streets are short and fairly regular. Beyond the last blocks the map opens into farmland and the long, flat valley floor, which gives the town clear edges. It is a simple composition, and it works well in black and white.
A Ziway map poster keeps things plain: the road, the grid, the shoreline and the lake. The islands in the lake are home to old Orthodox monasteries, and local tradition connects them with the story of the Ark of the Covenant. The lake also has a large fishing and birdlife population. On paper the result is quiet and balanced, with the town set against a broad expanse of water.

Lake islands
Small islands dot the lake, some with long-standing monasteries. At the right scale they show up as scattered shapes that break up the open water.
Highway spine
The main north–south road runs through the town, and most streets branch off it. That makes one clear axis for the rest of the layout to hang on.

Zakaj Ziway
Zemljevid, ki nekaj pomeni
Some people hang a Ziway map because they grew up by the lake. Others have worked or travelled through the Rift Valley. The lake and the grid make a restrained image that suits a study or hallway, and a personal title, date or subtitle can mark a birthplace or a journey.
Choose from five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. The $9 digital download includes 300 DPI PNG and PDF files in six sizes. Printed posters on matte paper ship from partners in more than 30 countries, with a wooden frame as an option.
