Le faʻafanua
Grand Cayman is the largest of the Cayman Islands, a British Overseas Territory in the western Caribbean. It is low and flat, and its outline is distinctive. The main body of the island runs east to west, and at the western end a long arm of land curves north. Together they wrap around North Sound, a wide, shallow lagoon that dominates the map.
George Town, the capital, sits on the western coast, and just to the north of it lies Seven Mile Beach, a long, straight stretch of sand lined with hotels and residences. Out in North Sound, the sandbar known as Stingray City is one of the island's best-known attractions. The eastern part of the island is quieter, with fewer roads and smaller settlements.
A Grand Cayman map poster makes the North Sound the centrepiece. You see the dense street network of George Town and the western arm, the straight line of Seven Mile Beach, and canals cut into the lagoon's edges. To the east, roads thin out along the coast. The result is an asymmetrical, recognisable shape with plenty of fine detail in the west.

The capital's streets form the densest part of the island, on the west coast near the harbour. It is where the island's road network is at its most intricate.
