Le faʻafanua
Hala'ib sits on Egypt's far south-eastern coast, on the Red Sea, close to the latitude of the border with Sudan. From above, the coastline is the main feature: a long, almost unbroken edge between open water and dry land. Coral fringes the shore and roads run parallel to it. The town is a small cluster of streets set back from the beach.
The town gives its name to the Hala'ib Triangle, an area claimed by both Egypt and Sudan and administered by Egypt. On a map this means the surrounding land is mostly empty. Wadis cross the plain from the hills inland toward the sea, and a few tracks connect scattered settlements. Every road and building stands out against the blank desert.
A Hala'ib map poster is mostly space, and that is part of its appeal. The line of the sea, the short grid of the town and the thin roads heading north and south make a sparse composition. In black and white, this far corner of the Red Sea coast becomes a quiet study of edges and distance.
The coast runs in a long, gentle line and gives the poster a strong edge. On one side is solid land, on the other open water with only a thin reef fringe.
A single main road follows the shore, linking Hala'ib with other settlements along the Red Sea. On the map it looks like a fine thread parallel to the water.
Dry riverbeds cut across the plain from the inland hills toward the sea. They add faint branching lines to an otherwise open, nearly blank landscape.

Aisea Hala'ib
This map suits someone who has worked, travelled or grown up along Egypt's southern Red Sea coast. It is also for anyone drawn to remote places where a few roads and a coastline tell the whole story. Personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates line to mark a stay or a family connection.
Choose from five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Sand fits the desert especially well. You can download the HD files for $9, with 300 DPI PNGs and print-ready PDFs in six sizes, or order a matte printed poster with an optional wooden frame.
