Le faʻafanua
Ilford lies in east London, in the borough of Redbridge, some nine miles east of Charing Cross. From above, it is a place of repeating terraces. Long, parallel residential streets, laid out mostly in the late Victorian and Edwardian decades, form a close, regular texture that fills much of the map around the town centre and the railway.
The River Roding runs along the western side of the town, with green space along its banks. Valentines Park, north of the centre, is one of the largest open spaces in the area, with lakes and formal gardens. The Great Eastern main line cuts through the centre, now served by the Elizabeth line toward central London and beyond.
The town gave its name to Ilford Limited, the photographic company founded here in the 1870s, whose black-and-white films and papers became known worldwide. An Ilford map poster drawn in the same monochrome is a fitting tribute. It shows the dense grid of terraces, the curve of the river and the parks that open up between the streets.
Long rows of houses along parallel roads create a dense, finely ruled pattern across much of Ilford, one of the most characteristic street patterns of outer London.
A large park north of the town centre, with lakes, gardens and open lawns. It forms a broad clearing in an otherwise closely built street pattern.
The river runs along the western side of Ilford on its way to the Thames. Green corridors along it separate the town from its neighbours.

Aisea Ilford
Ilford is where many London families first put down roots, and a map of its streets holds memories of first homes, schools and corner shops. Add your road or the date you moved in to the subtitle, and choose your own title.
Given the town's photographic heritage, Classic black and white or Noir feel especially right, though Paper, Blueprint and Sand are also available. The digital files cost $9, or you can order a matte print with an optional wooden frame, shipped from a partner near you.
