Le faʻafanua
Kurayyimah is a town in the northern Jordan Valley, in Irbid Governorate, on the low ground east of the Jordan River. The valley here lies below sea level and is intensively farmed. The town's streets form a compact settlement surrounded by fields, greenhouses and irrigation lines. From above, the pattern is a dense core inside an orderly agricultural patchwork.
Water shapes the landscape of the Jordan Valley. The King Abdullah Canal runs through the region and irrigates farms along the eastern side of the valley, and the field boundaries follow its straight, practical lines. To the east, the land rises steeply toward the hills, and roads switch back and forth as they climb away from the valley floor.
The Jordan River lies to the west, a narrow, winding line in a green corridor. A Kurayyimah map poster captures this setting simply: a valley town, its fields and waterways, and the hills that close the view on one side. It portrays a farming community shaped by one of the lowest and most fertile landscapes in the region.
Fields and greenhouses surround the town in regular plots. They give the map its texture and show how intensively the valley is farmed.
Irrigation channels, including the King Abdullah Canal serving the eastern Jordan Valley, cross the land in long straight lines, distinct from the winding natural watercourses.
East of the town, the ground climbs out of the valley, and roads turn into bends as they head toward the uplands of Irbid.
