Le faʻafanua
Laje lies in the hilly interior of Bahia, inland from the Atlantic coast and southwest of the Bay of All Saints. Here the land folds into low ridges and valleys, and the town's layout follows that relief. Streets curve to hold a contour or climb straight up a slope. From above, the centre looks less like a grid than a cluster of routes that have adjusted themselves to the ground.
The municipality around Laje is mainly rural, a landscape of small farms and patches of remaining Atlantic forest. At map scale that becomes a soft, open field around the town, crossed by winding country roads and small watercourses that settle into the valley floors. The built area is modest and compact, so its outline stays easy to read even when the surrounding countryside fills much of the frame.
A Laje map poster turns that relationship between town and terrain into a clean graphic. Curving streets, short connecting lanes and the roads that thread out between the hills draw an irregular, organic figure. In black and white, it has the quality of a sketch. It suits anyone who knows how these streets feel underfoot, uphill and down.
Streets in Laje bend and step to follow the hills rather than cutting straight across them. That gives the map flowing, uneven lines and blocks of varied shapes instead of a uniform grid.
Small streams run through the low ground around the town. On the poster they appear as fine meandering lines, marking where the land dips between the surrounding ridges.
Roads leave the town and wind through the rural hills toward neighbouring communities. Their loose curves extend the composition outward and set the compact centre against open countryside.
