Le faʻafanua
Maroua is the capital of Cameroon's Far North region, and from above it reads as a low, wide town laid out across the Sudano-Sahelian plain. Seasonal rivers, known locally as mayos, cut sandy channels through the urban area, and the street network bends around them rather than following a strict grid. Beyond the outer neighbourhoods, fields and dry scrub take over.
The city is known across the region for its crafts, particularly leatherwork, weaving and market trade, and it serves as the main gateway to the far north of the country. Waza National Park lies further north, and the Mandara Mountains shape the horizon to the west. On paper, these surroundings appear as open space framing a denser centre.
A Maroua map poster works well in black and white because the riverbeds become pale, meandering bands against the fine mesh of residential lanes. Main roads leave the centre in several directions like spokes, and the edges of the city thin out gradually. The result is a quiet, organic composition that reflects a place shaped by water that comes and goes with the seasons.
Wide sandy mayos run through the city, dry for much of the year and flowing in the rains. On the map they form the clearest curves in the whole composition.
Principal routes leave the centre toward other towns of the Far North, giving the street pattern a loose star shape that holds the finer lanes together.
Beyond the built-up area the map opens into farmland and savanna, so the city sits as a distinct island of streets with the foothills beyond.

Aisea Maroua
For someone who grew up in Maroua, worked there or passed through on the way north, this map is a restrained reminder of a specific place, drawn only from its streets and rivers. It suits a hallway, a study or an office wall without feeling decorative for its own sake.
You can personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates line, adding a family name or a meaningful date, and choose between Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. The HD files cost $9 and cover six print sizes, or you can order a printed poster with an optional wooden frame.
