Neusäß lies directly west of Augsburg in Bavarian Swabia. On the map it joins the larger city's western districts without a clear break. The town is made up of several formerly separate villages that grew together. As a result, it has no single old centre but a series of small cores linked by residential streets and main roads.
The Schmutter valley runs through the municipality, a narrow green band with meadows along the stream. To the west, the land rises into the wooded hills of the Augsburg Western Woods nature park.
