Le faʻafanua
Puri lies on the coast of Odisha, where the land meets the Bay of Bengal along a long, almost perfectly straight beach. On a map the shoreline is the first thing you notice: one clean edge running the full width of the town. Behind it, streets pack tightly together, with lanes, lodges and markets crowded between the sea and the flat land further inland.
The heart of Puri is the Jagannath Temple, one of the most important pilgrimage sites in Hinduism and one of the four Char Dham. From the temple the Grand Road, known locally as Bada Danda, runs as an unusually wide avenue towards the Gundicha Temple. Every year the Rath Yatra pulls huge wooden chariots along it, watched by enormous crowds.
That avenue gives the town a clear central axis, and it looks striking in plain linework. A Puri map poster sets the broad straight road against the narrow lanes around the temple, with the coastline marking the southern edge. It shows a town organised around both faith and the sea, and you can see that in its streets alone.
The Grand Road is much wider than any other street in Puri. On the map it is an unmistakable band leading from the Jagannath Temple to the Gundicha Temple, the route of the Rath Yatra.
The Jagannath Temple sits inside a large walled compound, and on the map it shows up as a solid block at the head of the Grand Road. Dense lanes fill the blocks around it.
Puri's shoreline runs as one straight line along the Bay of Bengal. Beach roads and seafront buildings follow it, giving the drawing a steady, open edge on the ocean side.

Aisea Puri
Puri is a place people travel to with intention, whether for the Rath Yatra, a family pilgrimage or a first view of the sea on the east coast. A map on the wall keeps the memory of that journey, drawn with the temple road at its centre.
Personalise the title and subtitle, perhaps with the date of a visit, and keep or edit the coordinates line. Then choose Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. You can download the files for $9 or order a matte printed poster with an optional wooden frame.
