Rosa Khutor lies in the mountains above Krasnaya Polyana, near Sochi, on the upper Mzymta river. On a map the resort village follows the river closely, with buildings along both banks and bridges joining them. The resort hosted the alpine skiing events of the 2014 Winter Olympics, and much of it was built for the Games.
