Le faʻafanua
Soledad sits in the south of Anzoátegui state, on the northern bank of the Orinoco at one of the river's narrowest reaches. The town spreads back from the water in a loose grid of blocks, with the broad river forming its entire southern edge. Across the channel lies Ciudad Bolívar, whose historic centre climbs the opposite bank.
The defining structure on the map is the Angostura Bridge, the suspension bridge that carries road traffic across the Orinoco between Soledad and Ciudad Bolívar. Opened in the 1960s, it was for decades the only bridge over the river. On a poster its long straight span is a single bold line tying two towns together across open water.
A Soledad map poster works best when it includes a generous stretch of the river. The mass of the Orinoco, with its sandbars and shifting edges, gives the composition weight, while the town's streets and the roads heading north into the plains add fine detail. The result is a print about crossing and connection as much as about a single place.
The suspension bridge spans the Orinoco directly from Soledad to Ciudad Bolívar. Its long, clean deck line is the clearest single feature on the map and anchors the whole design.
The river forms the town's southern boundary, a wide expanse of water whose edges shift with the seasons and give the lower half of the poster a calm, open field.
Framed slightly wider, the map shows Soledad and Ciudad Bolívar facing each other across the river, two street patterns set on opposite banks.
