Le faʻafanua
Telêmaco Borba lies in the interior of Paraná, in southern Brazil, on high ground near the valley of the Tibagi River. The city grew in the twentieth century around the pulp and paper industry. Its identity is still tied to the large Klabin mill and to the pine and eucalyptus plantations that stretch across the surrounding countryside.
From above, the town is compact and clearly bounded. Residential neighbourhoods are laid out in fairly regular blocks on the plateau, with straighter planned sections next to later growth that follows the slopes. Around the edges the streets stop abruptly against forest and plantation land, and the river valley cuts a deep line along one side.
A Telêmaco Borba map poster shows a working town surrounded by its source of work. The dense urban grid sits in the middle, roads lead out toward the mill and the forestry areas, and the Tibagi winds through the landscape. It is a clear, legible composition that reflects how industry shaped the growth of this part of Paraná.
The Tibagi River winds past the town in a deep valley, giving the map a strong natural curve against the more regular street blocks on the plateau.
Roads link the town to the pulp and paper complex nearby. On the map this reads as an industrial counterweight to the residential neighbourhoods.
Streets end sharply where planted forest begins, so the city has a crisp outer edge surrounded by broad empty space on the printed sheet.
