Le faʻafanua
Zhouxi lies in the hill country of southeastern Guizhou, close to the city of Kaili in the Qiandongnan Miao and Dong Autonomous Prefecture. From above, the town reads as a compact cluster of streets pressed into a valley floor, with terraced slopes and forested ridges rising on every side. Roads do not run in straight lines here; they follow contours, stream beds and the easiest passage between hills.
The region is known for Miao culture, and Zhouxi in particular is associated with the lusheng, the reed-pipe instrument played at seasonal festivals that draw visitors from across the prefecture. None of that appears directly on a map, but the setting does: a settlement shaped by farming valleys, village paths and the karst landscape that defines so much of Guizhou.
A Zhouxi map poster works through the contrast between density and space. The built centre forms a small, intricate knot of lines, while the surrounding countryside opens into thin, looping tracks and scattered hamlets. In black and white the terrain is implied rather than drawn, and the result feels quiet and organic, closer to a sketch of a landscape than to a diagram of a city.
The densest streets sit on the flattest ground available, forming a short, irregular core that thins out quickly as the land begins to climb toward the surrounding ridges.
Outside the centre, roads curve and double back along hillsides and streams, producing long winding lines that give the poster a loose, almost hand-drawn rhythm.
Small clusters of lanes mark outlying villages across the hills, appearing on the map as separate islands of detail linked by thin country roads.

Aisea Zhouxi
For people with roots in Qiandongnan, or travellers who came for its festivals and villages, this map holds a place that rarely appears in print. It is a small, specific piece of Guizhou, rendered with enough restraint to sit comfortably in a modern room.
You can set your own title, subtitle and coordinates line, adding a date or a family name, and choose from five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Download the HD files for $9 or order a printed poster, framed if you like.
