The river junction
The Republican and Smoky Hill rivers meet east of town to form the Kansas River. It is the feature the city is named after, and it reads clearly at any size.

Mapa
Junction City Map Poster & Print
Junction City takes its name from its site. Just east of town, the Republican and Smoky Hill rivers join to form the Kansas River, and on a map those three channels make a clear Y shape that anchors the whole composition. The town itself sits on higher ground to the west, laid out in a steady grid typical of the plains.
Directly to the northeast lies Fort Riley, a large Army post whose presence has shaped the town for generations. Its grounds cover a wide area of hills and river bottoms, and on the poster they appear as open land with scattered roads, sharply different from the tight blocks of the city. Interstate 70 runs along the southern side.
Northwest of town, Milford Lake, the largest reservoir in Kansas, stretches up the Republican valley. A Junction City map poster can frame the town between these features: the river confluence, the post and the long body of water, all set in open prairie that leaves plenty of calm white space.

Fort Riley
The Army post occupies a large area beside the town. Its sparse roads and open ground contrast with the regular street grid of Junction City itself.
Milford Lake
The state's largest reservoir extends northwest along the Republican River, a long irregular shape of water that adds weight to the upper part of the map.
