Hill-country streets
Roads in the older parts of Longshui bend around low hills and follow the natural contours. Their curving lines contrast with the straighter streets of the new districts.

Mapa
Longshui Map Poster & Print
Longshui lies in Dazu District in the west of Chongqing Municipality, in the rolling hill country of the Sichuan Basin. On the map the town spreads across low ground between hills. Its streets curve to follow the terrain, and wide new roads are laid out on the flatter land. Around it, the countryside is a fine pattern of terraced fields, ponds and small reservoirs.
The town has a long reputation for metalworking. Longshui knives and hardware have been traded across south-west China for generations, and a large hardware market still anchors its economy. The surrounding district is famous for the Dazu Rock Carvings, a UNESCO World Heritage Site of Buddhist, Taoist and Confucian sculpture cut into the hillsides between the ninth and thirteenth centuries.
A Longshui map poster shows a town in the middle of change: the older, irregular street pattern near the centre, newer grid-like districts with broad avenues, and the soft, broken shapes of water and fields around them. In black and white, the hills and reservoirs appear as calm open spaces that set off the density of the town.

Ponds and reservoirs
Water is scattered across the surrounding landscape, from farm ponds to larger reservoirs, and shows on the poster as a pattern of irregular shapes.
New avenues
Wider modern roads and planned blocks have been added on flatter ground. They give the map a second, more regular layer that shows the town's recent expansion.
