Niederkassel stretches along the right bank of the Rhine in the Rhein-Sieg district, roughly halfway between Cologne and Bonn. Rather than a single centre, it is made up of several former villages, among them Mondorf, Rheidt, Niederkassel, Lülsdorf, Ranzel and Uckendorf, which lie in a loose line close to the river. On the map they appear as separate clusters joined by roads running parallel to the water.
The Rhine dominates the western edge of the sheet, a wide band of water with groynes along its banks and meadows on the floodplain. At the southern end, near Mondorf, the Sieg flows into the Rhine through a green delta of meadows and old river arms. Inland the land is flat and open, with fields between the settlements and Cologne Bonn Airport a short distance to the east.
