Pushkino is the Soviet-era name of the town now officially called Biləsuvar, the administrative centre of Bilasuvar District in southern Azerbaijan. The town was renamed in the early 1990s, but the older name still appears in many records and memories. It lies on the Mughan plain, very close to the border with Iran, where a town with almost the same name sits on the other side.
The Mughan plain is one of the flattest landscapes in the Caucasus, and the map reflects this. The town's streets form a fairly regular layout of long, straight roads. Around it the land is divided into rectangular fields crossed by irrigation canals. There are no hills to interrupt the pattern, so straight lines dominate in every direction.
