From above, Lagoa Santa is organised around the water that gave it its name. A broad lagoon sits close to the centre, and the older streets trace its edge before giving way to newer blocks that spread outward. The town lies a short drive north of Belo Horizonte, within the metropolitan region of Minas Gerais, and the runways of Confins international airport sit close by.
