Puthūr lies in Thrissur district in central Kerala, a short distance from the city of Thrissur. Like much of the state, it is not a town with a hard edge. Houses, gardens and small commercial strips spread along the roads, separated by coconut groves, paddy fields and patches of higher ground. On a map, the settlement is a web of lanes rather than a compact block.
This loose pattern is what makes the black-and-white print interesting. Main roads curve with the terrain, and small lanes branch off them to reach homes set among trees.
