Antsiferov Island Map Poster & Print
Antsiferov Island lies in the northern Kuril Islands, in the Sea of Okhotsk to the west of Paramushir. It is small, roughly round and steep-sided, essentially the summit of a volcano rising from the sea. There are no settlements or roads, so a map of the island shows a single strong outline surrounded by open water.
The island is named after Danila Antsiferov, a Cossack who explored the northern Kurils in the early eighteenth century. No one lives there, and it is known mainly for the seabird colonies on its cliffs and slopes. The weather in this part of the Kurils is often harsh, and the island sees few visitors, mostly researchers and passing vessels.
An Antsiferov Island map poster is about as minimal as a map can be: one compact island, its coast drawn in fine line, set in a wide field of sea. It suits people who collect remote places, readers of Pacific and Arctic exploration history, and anyone drawn to strict, spare compositions.

Sheer coastline
Cliffs and rocky shores surround much of the island, so the outline is firm and unbroken rather than softened by bays or beaches.
Open sea around
Paramushir lies some distance to the east, so most of the frame is water, with the island as a single, isolated mark at the centre.
