Baima lies in Wulong district in southeastern Chongqing, in an area known for its limestone karst landscape. The town sits along the Wu River, one of the main tributaries of the Yangtze, where the valley is narrow and the mountains rise sharply on either side. On a map the town appears as a thin band of streets following the water.
With little flat land available, the town grows lengthwise rather than outward. Roads run parallel to the river, and access to the higher ground comes by winding routes that climb the slopes in tight bends. The mountains around Baima are part of the wider Wulong karst area, which is known for its gorges, natural bridges and caves.
