Cabedelo occupies the tip of a narrow peninsula in Paraíba, with the Atlantic Ocean on one side and the estuary of the Paraíba River on the other. On a map it is a long, thin city, stretched between two water edges, with a single main corridor running its length towards João Pessoa.
The port of Cabedelo serves the state capital, and the Fortaleza de Santa Catarina, a colonial fortress, guards the mouth of the river. On the estuary side, Praia do Jacaré is known for its sunsets, when Ravel's Boléro is played as the sun goes down over the water.
