Chojnice is a Pomeranian town at the western edge of the Tuchola Forest, one of the largest forest areas in Poland. The map shows a small, compact medieval centre: a market square with streets branching out from it, traced by the line of old fortifications. Around the centre, the later town spreads out in more open blocks, then gives way to woodland and lakes, including the long Lake Charzykowskie to the north-west.
Parts of the medieval walls survive, and the Człuchów Gate is the town's best-known monument. Chojnice later became an important railway junction, and several lines still meet here. They cut clear diagonals through the outer districts.

Several railway lines converge on Chojnice and cross the outer districts as long, gently curving strokes. They are a reminder of the town's role as a rail hub.
Lakes and forest
To the north and east the map opens onto the Tuchola Forest and lakes such as Charzykowskie. Their irregular shorelines frame the town with calm, open shapes.
