Cholargós Map Poster & Print
Cholargós lies in the north-eastern part of the Athens basin, between the city centre and the foot of Mount Hymettus. On a map it is part of the continuous urban fabric of Athens, yet it has its own pattern: a fairly regular grid of residential streets, small squares and pockets of green, bounded by major roads and rising gently towards the mountain.
The name goes back to antiquity. Cholargos was one of the demes of ancient Attica, and Pericles, the Athenian statesman, belonged to it. The modern suburb developed mostly in the twentieth century, and today it is a quiet residential area, with Mesogeion Avenue, one of the main arteries leading out of Athens, running along its edge.
A Cholargós map poster shows the neat blocks of the suburb, the wide lines of the avenues, and the open, contoured slopes of Hymettus to the east. It is a precise, calm image of a neighbourhood inside a large city.

Mesogeion Avenue
The broad avenue running along the edge of the district is one of the strongest lines in the composition, leading towards central Athens.
Slopes of Hymettus
To the east, the built-up area gives way to the open slopes of the mountain, a quieter area at the edge of the print.
