Driouch is a town in north-eastern Morocco, in the Oriental region, on the south-eastern side of the Rif mountains. It became the seat of the new Driouch Province in 2009, when the province was carved out of Nador. On a map, the town spreads across a fairly open stretch of ground, with bare, eroded hills rising around it.
The street pattern shows a town that has grown quickly. A main road runs through the centre, and newer neighbourhoods have been added in blocks on either side, some on a grid, some following the slopes. Dry stream beds cut across the surrounding land, visible on the map as thin branching lines. A Driouch map poster shows the town's compact centre and the growth around it.
The area is part of the Rif, a Berber-speaking region with strong ties to Europe through emigration, and the landscape around Driouch is dry and open, with scattered farms and villages.
