Hāsimāra is in Alipurduar district in northern West Bengal, in the Dooars. This belt of plains sits at the foot of the Himalaya, close to the border with Bhutan. The map mixes very different shapes: a compact town along the main road and railway, the geometric outlines of tea gardens, and the wide, braided beds of rivers coming down from the hills.
The town is known for Hasimara Air Force Station, whose runway and facilities form one of the largest single features on the map. To the southwest lies Jaldapara National Park, a protected grassland and forest area known for its one-horned rhinoceros. The border town of Jaigaon, across from Phuentsholing in Bhutan, is a short distance away.

Tea estates surround the town in large, regular blocks, divided by estate roads and drainage lines. They give the Dooars their distinctive pattern from above.

Rivers flowing down from the Bhutan hills spread into wide, braided channels across the plain. Their beds form pale, shifting bands between the tea gardens.
