Itabaiana Map Poster & Print
Itabaiana is in the state of Paraíba, in northeastern Brazil, in the agreste, the transitional zone between the humid coast and the dry sertão. The Paraíba River passes near the town. Historically Itabaiana grew as a market and railway town serving the surrounding farmland.
It is also the birthplace of Sivuca, the accordionist and composer who took the music of the Brazilian northeast to international stages. His name is an important part of the town's identity, and it is often the first thing people from elsewhere learn about Itabaiana.
An Itabaiana map poster shows the town in its valley setting. The historic centre gathers around its church and square, the streets extend outward in a loosely regular pattern, and the river's course and the roads toward the coast and the interior give the composition its main directions. In black and white, it is modest and clear.

Roads outward
Roads leave Itabaiana toward João Pessoa on the coast and toward the interior. They draw long lines across the agreste farmland.
