Iwo is an old Yoruba town in Osun State, south-western Nigeria, set in gently rolling country between Ibadan and Osogbo. From above, the town has the organic shape common to Yoruba settlements: roads radiate from a centre where the traditional palace and main markets stand, and neighbourhoods grow outward along them.
There is no strict grid here. Streets curve and branch as they follow older paths, with denser clusters of buildings close to the middle and more open, irregular blocks at the edges. Major roads connecting Iwo to neighbouring towns give the map its main axes.
