Winding lanes
Narrow roads follow the hills and valleys instead of straight lines. On the poster they form a delicate, branching network across the whole frame.

Katirur Map Poster & Print
Katirur is a census town in the Kannur district of northern Kerala, a short distance inland from the coastal town of Thalassery. Like much of the Malabar coast, it has no sharp boundary between town and countryside. On the map, houses and lanes spread across low laterite hills, interspersed with coconut groves, paddy fields and small streams.
The road network follows the land rather than a plan. Lanes wind along ridges and dip into valleys, connecting homes, temples and schools in a loose pattern. Larger roads run towards Thalassery and the coast to the west, where the landscape opens onto the Arabian Sea.
A Katirur map poster looks very different from a dense city grid. It shows a scattered, organic pattern of lanes and settlements set in a green, gently rolling landscape. In black and white, the fine network of roads becomes an intricate, almost hand-drawn texture.

Paddy and streams
Low-lying land between the hills is used for paddy and crossed by small streams. These open areas break up the pattern of houses and lanes.
Roads to the coast
Main roads lead west towards Thalassery and the Arabian Sea. They give the otherwise dispersed map a sense of direction and connection.
